This is Java!
Djampit has all the rich, velvety body you expect from an Indonesian coffee--and then some! Our medium-dark roast has subdued bittersweet dark chocolate notes, some honey, pecan, and a hint of spice. The aroma is laced with floral tones. The very low acidity gives it a long, lingering finish.
"Java" is synonymous with coffee. The origin dates back to 1699 when the Dutch established the first coffee plantations in Indonesia. The Djampit Estate, at 1250 meters above sea level, on the slopes of the Raung Volcano in East Java, dates back to that colonial period.
The shadow of the volcano provides more than just a dramatic backdrop to the farm. Centuries of thermal activity have enriched the land with abundant minerals that ultimately enhance the coffee with a unique richness and depth of flavor.
The coffee is hand-picked by the local community, many of whom live in villages situated within the farm itself. The freshly picked cherry is washed and fermented in a spotlessly clean wet mill situated on the farm before being sun-dried and stored for conditioning. After drying, the beans are hand sorted by an army of women who meticulously remove broken beans and defects. Such activity results in an incredibly consistent and reliable coffee with great character.
